Magic through every season 

Catriona first travelled to Canada more than three decades ago, and the country continues to draw her back. Each visit brings fresh discoveries, from evolving cultural experiences to new culinary openings, yet the essentials she loves most never change. She is still "mesmerised by Mother Nature, astounded by the diversity and delighted by the locals". She also finds that tourism is forever evolving there, with new experiences opening up, embracing the magnificent mountains, the rich culture and local food, making it always a good idea to return. 

Canada’s seasonal character is another reason she believes it rewards repeat visits. In her words, "Year-round there is always something to thrill; this country endlessly delivers." Whether it is spring’s soft light, the long days of summer, the bold colours of autumn or snow-dusted peaks, each time of year reveals a different side of this remarkable landscape. 

Whistler: more than just mountain thrills 

Whistler is known for its awe-inspiring landscapes, but for Catriona, there were two standout surprises beyond the scenery. "I loved to find young Australians everywhere," she laughs. "Their sunny, Aussie disposition shines through." The result is a welcoming atmosphere, complemented by the locals, and impeccable service that feels both international and familiar. 

Wildlife encounters added another layer of magic to Whistler. "We saw bears everywhere, even at the bus stop (apparently they love the dandelions that grow around the base)." While bears are seasonal, she notes that due to a great berry season last year, this year they’re thriving. “We kept our distance, and it was adorable to watch them." Scenic guests can also learn more about the bears on an exclusive experience led by black bear expert Michael Allen, who has been studying these fascinating creatures for decades.

From ziplining high above the trees to guided bear spotting and cultural learning at the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre, Catriona loved how the Whistler region encouraged openness and curiosity. "The constant learning you achieve, simply by signing up to these experiences, being open-minded and having fun in the process," she says, was a highlight.

"The point of difference is so much local produce, so many great restaurants, in close proximity to each other."  

Guided exploration added an extra dimension to her time here. Walking among towering trees, crossing viewpoints and listening to the sounds of the river, she felt a profound sense of calm and uplift. 

What moved her most was the story behind this protected landscape. "I loved the background story to this experience, the local who saved the trees from logging and developers so generations could forever experience this natural beauty." She describes the experience as "not too long, offers a great cafe and all the good things about Canada in one beautiful space." The drive through the Rockies
